Establishment of the new status of residence of Specified Skilled Worker

In order to respond to severe labor shortages, including for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), the system pertaining to the status of Specified Skilled Worker (hereafter “Specified Skilled Worker System”) was established to accept foreign people with capabilities in certain specializations and skills in industry sectors facing difficult situations for securing human resources even if efforts are undertaken to improve productivity and secure human resources in Japan.

To acquire the Category 1 Specified Technical Skill status of residence in the Machine parts and tooling/Industrial machinery/Electric,electronics and information industries

To acquire the Category 1 Specified Technical Skill status of residence in the three specified fields, you must meet the specified skills and Japanese language ability requirements. Japanese language abilities are evaluated via the Japan Foundation Test for Basic Japanese (JFT-Basic) or the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) operated by the Japan Foundation and Japan Educational Exchanges and Services.
Specified skills are evaluated via the Examination Evaluating Category 1 Specified Technical Skills for Manufacturing Sectors.

The process of applying for an examination to the issuance of a Pass Certificate.

• Apply for an examination and pay the fees.
• You will receive the exam voucher by e-mail (*it will arrive around one week before the examination date).
• Take the examination.
• You will receive the examination results by e-mail (*three months after the examination).
• Those who have passed the examination should then apply for the issuance of a Pass Certificate via the webpage dedicated for applications.
